In this down comforter at downcomforterguides, I’m going to show you how to always keep your comforter in good shape and how to clean it at home.

Put away when unused If you aren’t going to use your comforter for a long time, you should wrap it up and put inside the comforter bag. Store it somewhere clean and dry. The next time when you use it, you won’t need to dry clean or wash it.

Clean the cover frequentlyThe cover is where it has most stain and scratch. You should often care for your cover. And clean it immediately when you see any stains.

Don’t sit or lay on your comforterThis will flatten the down fill inside. And doesn’t matter how good is your down fill, sitting on it will still cause the down to fall apart.

Clean your comforter once a few yearsNormal down comforter needs to be clean after 2-3 years of use. For high-quality products, you only need to clean them every 10 years.

Step 1 – Remove the down comforter

Carefully remove your comforter from the bed. Put it in a dry, clean place to start washing. You could hang it on and give it some taps to remove the dirt.

Step 2 Use a front-loading washing machine

Make sure that your washing machine is big enough for your comforter. Consider the weight before you put it in. Better use a large washing machine to do this. If you don’t have it, you should go to your local laundromat. Remember to choose the largest washing machine to leave a little space inside.

Step 3 – Gently wash your comforter

Add in mild laundry detergent, use warm water to wash your comforter. Hot or cold water can easily damage the down fill. Add bleach in if your comforter is white. But you wouldn’t want to do this if your comforter is colored. Choose the soft fabric mode, rough spin can easily damage the shape of the comforter.

Step 4 Use the rinse cycle twice

This is to make sure that your comforter is clean and to remove any extra excess.

Step 5 – Dry your comforter

You shouldn’t use the spin dry in the washing machine. It’s not good for your down fill. Doing this can make your comforter loose its softness and fluffiness. Consider air dry it in a dry and clean area.

But if you want to save time by using the dryer machine, remember this. Set the temperature at a low setting to avoid your comforter from shrinking. You can do this couples of times to make sure that it is all dry. Use your finger to feel for clumps. If there are clumps inside your down comforter, it is probably because the down fill inside hasn’t dried yet.

Step 6 Fluff it out.

After fluffing your comforter, place it back to your bed. The whole process would take about 4-6 hour. Make sure you have enough time for it.
