A mattress is one of the most important items in your house since you will be spending about 7 hours a day on it. Choosing the incorrect one will have you wake up with neck or back pain and a not so good feeling. In this article, we will give you some small tips and things to look out for when buying this sleep equipment. They certainly won’t help you choose the best there is on the market, but rather, they will prevent you from making a bad choice. Here they are:
1/ Research online
The internet is a really powerful tools and using them just to look at pictures of cat really devalues its capacity. Do a quick tour around the web to find out about the types, brands and popular price range currently on the market. This will help you get a better idea of what you are going to buy and avoid being scammed into buying it at a “discount” price.
2/ Consult your doctor
If you have any particular health condition, it is a good idea to ask for some advice from your doctor. They are certainly not experts in this field; however, they do know very well your physical condition and give advice based on that. Then, you can tell this to the clerk and he or she will single out the most suitable options for you.
For example, if you have a back condition, it would not be a good idea to choose a firm mattress or box spring. This is because research indicates that for low back pain, medium firmness is a much better option
3/ Test it
You should do some research online but you should always buy this in person. This is so that you can test it yourself to see how it feels. Our advice is to lie down for 10 to 15 minutes. This thing will cost you a lot so take all the time you need to make sure that it is right for you. Don’t pay attention to everyone else in the shop or the clerk telling you to hurry up. If you are going to buy a bed for two, both of you should test it out together.
If you want to adjust the firmness of your bed according to your mood, this is the way to go, i.e. an air mattress. This will allow changing the firmness by decreasing or increasing the level of air inside. If your partner’s sense of firmness is different, there are even beds with two different air containers. This will allow each of you to adjust the firmness according to your personal preference.
5/ Ask everything
If you want to know something just open your mouth and ask the clerk. You are in a position of power, not them. Ask them about the warranty, the trial period (if any), and other additional costs (e.g. shipping). Read everything to the words to fully understand your rights and obligations.
6/ Investment protection
If your mattress is damage beyond what is stated in the contract, you will lose the warranty. Therefore, do purchase some kind of protective cover for your mattress. It is much cheaper than losing your warranty, right?
